Hey Everyone, guess what’s coming up in the next coupla months (as if you can’t tell from the photo above)?
That’s right, you’ve got it – our Annual Conference! We’re keeping it close to home this year and holding the festivities in San Francisco, and as always, you’re invited to come along and join us during our open events on Saturday afternoon and Sunday. All the details are on our Conference page right here – check it out!
A big part of the conference is the Congress, which meets on Sunday morning will select candidates for the LifeRing Board of Directors and decide on proposed changes to the LifeRing Bylaws.
3 BOARD OF DIRECTORS SEATS NEED FILLING
Most exciting is that there are 3 Board seats open this year, which means if you (or someone you know) is interested in running, here’s your opportunity!
The Board has most often been comprised of face-to-face meeting convenors and Bay Area locals over the years, and they’re all great! This year, we’d like to especially encourage women, representatives from our online community (such as our e-mail group, Chat and online meeting, web forum, Ning, and other online group members), and members of our international community to apply, as well.
All LifeRing members, 21 and over, and with two years of uninterrupted sobriety are welcome to apply. We hope you will consider running! Please see our nominee qualifications page here, and look here for a current list of Board Nominees.
Additionally, now’s your chance to change the bylaws governing LifeRing. Read the current Bylaws; go to our Proposed Bylaw Changes page and see what, if anything has already been proposed – and then feel free to propose any changes of your own!
Every public LifeRing meeting, including each online group, is entitled to one delegate who will cast the group’s vote in the general election. Even though a delegate is not required to physically attend the Congress to cast their votes – an absentee ballot will be emailed to the delegate, and the completed ballot is returned via email – nevertheless, please, make sure your meeting has a delegate.
The election is a “representative democracy”, which means each delegate is elected by the meeting members. The only requirement for being a delegate is having six months of sobriety under your belt, so if you have the slightest interest in being a delegate (and you do, don’t you?), please let your group know.
If you want to nominate someone from your group to be your delegate, let your convenor know. Please see Eligibility Determination of Delegates for more information.
The voting window stays open for a few weeks beyond the Congress, and once the voting deadline passes, the votes are totaled, certified, and the results are announced on the website. Please see Rules and Regulations for the Election of LifeRing Board Members and Bylaw changes for more information.
Want to run for the Board (cuz you do, don’t you)? Nominate a group Delegate (cuz you will, won’t you)? Have any questions or concerns? Please email our Registrar of Voters at email@example.com!
We’re really looking forward to it, and would love to see you there! If you have any questions, please feel free to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
