2017 LifeRing Annual Conference and Elections

Hey Everyone, guess what’s coming up in the next coupla months (as if you can’t tell from the photo above)?

That’s right, you’ve got it – our Annual Conference! We’re keeping it close to home this year and holding the festivities in San Francisco, and as always, you’re invited to come along and join us during our open events on Saturday afternoon and Sunday. All the details are on our Conference page right here – check it out!

A big part of the conference is the Congress, which meets on Sunday morning will select candidates for the LifeRing Board of Directors and decide on proposed changes to the LifeRing Bylaws.

3 BOARD OF DIRECTORS SEATS NEED FILLING

Most exciting is that there are 3 Board seats open this year, which means if you (or someone you know) is interested in running, here’s your opportunity!

The Board has most often been comprised of face-to-face meeting convenors and Bay Area locals over the years, and they’re all great! This year, we’d like to especially encourage women, representatives from our online community (such as our e-mail group, Chat and online meeting, web forum, Ning, and other online group members), and members of our international community to apply, as well.

All LifeRing members, 21 and over, and with two years of uninterrupted sobriety are welcome to apply. We hope you will consider running! Please see our nominee qualifications page here,  and look here for a current list of Board Nominees.

BYLAWS

Additionally, now’s your chance to change the bylaws governing LifeRing. Read the current Bylaws; go to our Proposed Bylaw Changes page and see what, if anything has already been proposed – and then feel free to propose any changes of your own!

DELEGATES

Every public LifeRing meeting, including each online group, is entitled to one delegate who will cast the group’s vote in the general election. Even though a delegate is not required to physically attend the Congress to cast their votes – an absentee ballot will be emailed to the delegate, and the completed ballot is returned via email – nevertheless, please, make sure your meeting has a delegate.

The election is a “representative democracy”, which means each delegate is elected by the meeting members. The only requirement for being a delegate is  having six months of sobriety under your belt, so if you have the slightest interest in being a delegate (and you do, don’t you?), please let your group know.

If you want to nominate someone from your group to be your delegate, let your convenor know. Please see Eligibility Determination of Delegates for more information.

The voting window stays open for a few weeks beyond the Congress, and once the voting deadline passes, the votes are totaled, certified, and the results are announced on the website. Please see Rules and Regulations for the Election of LifeRing Board Members and Bylaw changes for more information.

Want to run for the Board (cuz you do, don’t you)? Nominate a group Delegate (cuz you will, won’t you)? Have any questions or concerns? Please email our Registrar of Voters at registrar@lifering.org!

We’re really looking forward to it, and would love to see you there! If you have any questions, please feel free to email us at service@lifering.org

On LifeRing’s 2016 Conference: The Opposite of Addiction Is Connection

Well, my dear blog friends, you’ve waited long enough.

As you know, LifeRing held its annual conference earlier this month in beautiful San Diego this year, and I know you’ve been dying to hear aaaaallll about it…

Before we get started, though, my sense of propriety requires that I must warn you that I thought in order to share the immediacy of these events with the wider LifeRing world – since in addition to being the blogstress I’m now LifeRing’s “Facebook person” and everything – that it would be a good idea to try being one of these live Facebooker people and post stuff on our Facebook page as the conference went along.

I mean, how hard can it be, amiright? Yeah!

I even downloaded a nifty app that allows one to access more than one social media account at a time on their smart phones, which I’m happy to report works like a charm. (Honestly. I give it 5 stars!) I proceeded to take pictures, and then spent hours trying to upload them and post them to Facebook with limited degrees of success.

Therefore, you get to enjoy the sucky pics I took in all their bleary-eyed glory* (thanks again to Dan Carrigan for getting a coupla great shots).

So, here it is – my take on things, for the second year running**. Thilling, idn’t it?

Counting Down to the LifeRing Annual Conference in 5…4…3…

LifeRing Logo Border

Hey again, everyone!

As mentioned in my last post, I just wanted to remind those of you exclusive blog readers who might still be considering it that our Annual Conference starts this Friday, June 3rd, in San Diego, you’re still invited, and it’s not too late to register to attend! Check out the information here, and hope to see you there!

Going or not going, it’s all good! Either way, here’s a link to an insightful interview I think you might enjoy from The Fix with Tracey Helton Mitchell, one of our featured speakers this year, about her take on long term recovery and her book published in March, “The Big Fix: Hope After Heroin”. In addition to discussing her own history with addiction and recovery, part of which includes using LifeRing, she now spends a great deal of her time helping others in their journeys toward long term recovery, as well, and I look forward to hearing her talk.

I’ll be headed to the conference with my DH (Dear Husband) and will faithfully report back here about how it all went down later this month (I’m now large and in charge of the LifeRing Quarterly Newsletter, which you’ll also be seeing later this month, as well), but I’ll be posting some “live updates” during the conference on Saturday on our Facebook page too, so feel free to check that out if you get a chance.

See you on the flip side! 🙂

LifeRing Conference 2016 – Come On Down!

LifeRing-Logo

Every year we hold a special conference of all LifeRing members, including face-to-face and online meeting convenors and participants, our organization’s Board members, as well as addiction and recovery professionals, to get together to talk about addiction and recovery…

And you’re invited, too!

It’s a wonderful way for LifeRingers to connect with one another and celebrate Choice In Recovery. It’s also a great way for anyone genuinely interested – or perhaps just genuinely curious –  to find out more about who we are, what we do, and why we do it all while learning vital, timely information about brain health, evidence-based treatment options, and our growing role in helping others empower their clean and sober selves.

And we’d love for you to join us and to see you there – so come on down!
