New LifeRing meeting in Esquimalt, B.C., Canada

A new LifeRing meeting got underway last week in Esquimalt, Canada, outside of Victoria, the provincial capital of British Columbia. Michael Walsh, Executive Director of LifeRing Canada, announced the new meeting which takes place on Tuesday evenings at 7:30 at the Esquimalt Recreation Centre on Fraser St. The Victoria area now has meetings six times a week.

New LifeRing Meeting in Killorglin, Ireland

Another new LifeRing meeting has come to Ireland, this time in Killorglin in County Kerry, on the Southwest of the Island. It joins several meetings in Dublin and Cork, along with Clonakilty and, in Northern Ireland, Belfast. The new group meets each Wednesday evening at 7:30 at The Manor Inn Hotel in Killorglin. They began this week and, reports are, all went very well.

New LifeRing Website in Ireland

LifeRing Ireland has gone through some changes in the past several months and now have a new website. liferingdublin.com is now up, replacing the old liferingireland site. It shares a design, and some content, with the liferingCork.com site. The new site has a very nice look to it and may provide some ideas for this site, which is pondering some changes in design to make it more useful.

Come to the LifeRing meetings at CAADAC!

LifeRing will be holding two special meetings this week at the CAADAC 31st Annual Conference at the Sheraton Grand in Sacramento! CAADAC is the California Association of Alcoholism & Drug Abuse Counselors (CAADAC) and this is a big chance to get the word out about LifeRing to counselors from all over the State. http://www.caadac.org/pages/news/caadac-annual-conference.php. We want to show them what a LifeRing meeting is like.

7 AM to 8 AM Saturday October 1

Just two blocks from the K and 10th Light Rail Hub.
You should be able to find street parking near the capitol or in one of the many nearby parking garages.
If you can give others a ride, please do! Those who attend the meetings do get attendance credit.

LifeRing’s First Vermont Meeting Starts

The first LifeRing meeting in Vermont becomes a reality on Sept. 1, 2011, in St. Johnsbury, in the northeastern part of the State. It’s happening every Thursday at the Center for Well Being, at Eastern Ave. and Railroad Sts. in St. Johnsbury, from noon to 1 p.m.. Look for the blue awning! New Meeting Site for Antioch, CA

The Monday noon LifeRing meeting in Antioch, CA, is moving to a new location. Starting on Aug. 22nd, it will meet at:

New LifeRing E-mail Group for Scandinavians

LSR-Scandinavia has been created for the growing number of LifeRing members living in the Scandinavian countries — Sweden, Norway and Denmark. Others in the region, including Iceland where LifeRing has a presence, are welcome as are Scandinavians living abroad. The new e-mail group will function in the same way as other LifeRing e-mail groups: messages sent to the group address go to everybody in the group in their regular e-mailbox, as do replies to those e-mails. E-mail groups are a great way for people with a common interest to stay in touch, support one another and gain insights and information. To join the group, click HERE

Colorado Springs gets its first LifeRing Meeting

One of LifeRing’s convenors writes:

Tonight’s meeting was just one of those wonderful gatherings in which I felt tremendous love and connectedness with each person present.

A member with 11 months’ sobriety convened the meeting. It’s such a joy to see the transformation that has taken place in him, as he moved from viewing sobriety as a straitjacket to really unfurling his sober wings.

We discussed the importance of continually examining our sober foundation. We agreed that if we build our sober structure on a foundation of anger, resentment, wistfulness, lack of self-honesty, an unbalanced life, then even the slightest gust of wind could be enough to topple that structure. People gave examples of ways in which they blasted off parts of their sober foundation that they found did not serve them well, and replaced it with something that truly supported their sober lives.

I felt the love of those who truly understood my struggles. I felt gifted by a generosity I never experienced prior to my recovery.

It hasn’t always been a rose garden, but my decision to become a convenor, rooted in the purely selfish need for a viable f2f alternative to AA, has been one of the greatest joys I’ve known.
