  5. gerry says:

  6. Michael Walsh says:

Brilliant! How are you going about getting people to convene and/or get new groups started?

  7. kath says:

Just picked up empowering your sober self. Great book!
See on website that the meeting in Fresno is on thursday nights at Kaiser. Where exactly are the meetings held. It’s a big place.

  8. SHIRLEY says:

just found website looks interesting .I am recovering alcoholic , some years sober. would be good to share experiences

  9. Craig W says:

    Shirley,
You sound like a candiate for our on-line groups, assuming there is no face-to-face group near you. Check them out!

  10. Craig W says:

    Kath,
The listing for the Fresno meeting mentions Redwood 2nd Floor which should narrow your search some. There’s also a phone number for the convenor of the group. I hope you’ll try to attend!

  11. Anthony says:

  12. Ade Rowley says:

    Hi there

I have srarted a LifeRing group in England. I am pretty sure we are the flagship group (first group) to set up here. How do I go about having this listed on the website? Also, I am in the process of setting up a website and eventually this will need listing. I did email the webmaster a while back but not sure if that ever arrived there as I did not get a response.

    Thanks

  13. hedera says:

    Hi,
Sorry about the lack of response, we’ve been in the process of changing webmasters. I’m the new webmaster and an email to webmaster will get a response from now on. I’ve just approved your comment, so the people watching the “New to Lifering” list will see it and probably get in touch for details of your new group. Congratulations!

    Karen I., webmaster

  14. Craig W says:

    Ade,
I’ll be in touch to get you listed on the website and offer what help we can from the Service Center. It’s very good to hear from you!

  15. Troy Spears says:

Just wanted to check in. I’ve been active in AA in Modesto, CA, but I’ve been looking for secular recovery in this area. I started a little “maverick” AA group which is almost 7 years old – we allow visitors and members of other recovery programs to share and we read any literature that we find helpful. Needless to say, most AA in this area is religious and they don’t feel our group is “real” AA. Anyway, I would like to share at treatment facilities but I don’t feel comfortable pushing Higher Powers and take-it-on-faith stepwork. Courts and attorneys find their hands tied in this locale because there is no alternative to the 12 Steps in Stanislaus County. We’re planning our first (unofficial?) meeting on Friday, January 7 at 6:30pm. The first meetings will take place in a private home at 1905 Kienitz Ave, Modesto, CA – later, we will look for a public location such as Kaiser or Doctor’s Medical. Ideas, suggestions, encouragement?

  16. Craig W says:

    Troy,
    We’ll be in touch!

  17. Kip Nicholas says:

Is anyone aware of any lifering groups in Australia? I am a struggling atheist addict trying to navigate the waters of NA but feel constantly compromised and insincere.
    Kip

  18. Craig W says:

    Kip,
LifeRing doesn’t have any groups in Australia at this time. I hope you’ll explore the on-line venues that we offer — I used LifeRing on-line to get sober 10 years ago.
    Craig

  19. Philip says:

Hi to all from the UK mainland….. We have started a successful group in Belfast Northern Ireland….
Any chance of some of you guys starting meetings……. :-)

  20. marguerite says:

haven’t been able to get to meetings, i miss them. Would be good to talk to someone. I’m in Co Meath Ireland and the choices outside AA, which I don’t like the whole ethos of, are few to none.

  21. Craig W says:

    Marguerite,
Sounds like you could use an E-pal! I’ll send you an email and explain how it works.
    Craig

  22. Bruce Riley says:

    Craig,
I was a member of the LSR Safe group. I no longer remember how to sign in,
passwords, etc. At the time I may not have been the best member but situations change. I am trying to get c&s and started attending AA mtgs. last week. I am an
atheist and live in Mobile, Al. I became very angry last night at a meeting last night.
I have a problem with alcohol and want no part of a god delusion. I have enough
problems already. They even close meetings here with the lord’s prayer. I really feel
isolated and would like to at least check out LRS Safe once more.

  23. Craig W says:

    Bruce,
    I’ll be in touch!
    Craig

  24. Patricia says:

Im in meath ireland and could do with an e pal

  25. Craig W says:

Hello, Patricia. I’ll send you an email to get things set up.

  26. Cynthia Williams says:

    Hello,
Can you tell me how to register? It appears easy to login, but I can’t find a way to register for the first time.
    Thanks!

  27. Craig W says:

    Cynthia,
I’ll contact you be email to be sure I understand what you’re asking, but my guess is you’re referring to our online chat meetings, which can be a bit tricky. I’ll be in touch.
    –Craig

  28. Tony says:

I attend LR meetings in St. Patrick’s in Dublin, Ireland. Would like to hear from likeminded people.

  29. Craig W says:

    Tony,
You might consider joining one of our e-mail groups, LSRmail or LSRsafe, or perhaps visit the LifeRing Forum or chat or the Ning social networking site — all our aimed at providing ways to stay in touch with “likeminded people” outside of face-to-face meetings. You might visit http://lifering.org/lifering-on-line/ and look at the options.

  30. Hello,

I live in Northern Vermont and am looking to hopefully start up a Life Ring in my area. I am finding this all very hard and just want to make sure that before I try and promote this group that I am doing it correctly without tainting the integrity of what “Life Ring” is all about. I have received some literature in the mail already which included “How was your week?”
I have browsed the Life Ring website and seem to be getting more and more overwhelmed with it. I want to maximize the possibilities of gaining members, considering the strong fact that where I am looking to start up Life Ring, just happens to be the birthplace of Dr. Bob(AA)
I need to make contact with someone who can hold my hand just so that I can be assured I have all my ducks in a row before meeting one.
What official paperwork do I need?
I seen a form about LifeRing Charter and it looks like it needs to be signed by the director or officer.
I tried advertizing with the forum and that does not seem to be working .
What else can I do besides standing on a street corner?
What areas on the LifeRing website to I join for solid information?

I know I rambled here and that many folks who run LifeRing are quite busy, so I do not want to step on anyone’s toes during this initial process

Lastly I am a graduate student who is going to college full time as well as doing my internship. My field of study is addictions, so I really want to make this happen in more ways than one, and yes I do meet the criteria needed to be a convenor.

Thank You very much for your time and efforts,

    Thomas Halligan Jr.
    St. Johnsbury, Vermont

  31. Alex says:

Thomas, I’m in the same boat as you. I live in Arcata, CA and I’ve been reading all the literature and trying to get some confidence about starting a LR meeting in this area, which doesn’t have one. I’m going to school in addiction studies as well. What school are you attending? I went to school for three semesters in Vermont at Goddard College. When you have your first meeting, I would greatly appreciate hearing a recap of how it went! I’m not sure it would be a good idea to put my email here for the general public, but you can contact me on lifering.ning.com. I’m the Alex from Arcata. I’m also on the LifeRing Convenor email list, which has been very helpful. health.yahoo.groups.com/group/liferingconvenor

  32. Patrick M. Faughnan says:

Very much interested in an e-mail connection, the LifeRing approach is what I didn’t find at AA, a relateable outlet without the schism between myself and my lack of belief in a higher power. Plenty of work to do

  33. Craig W says:

    Patrick –
I’ll be in touch by email to give you information.
    –Craig

  34. Kathy Gilbert says:

I love the Life Ring Chat rooms,,,but I would also like to learn about the e-mail connection. Thanks a lot..Kathy

  35. Craig W says:

    Kathy,
I’ll be in touch with some info!

  36. Jon says:

    Hi All,

Anyone know of any research showing consumers of lifering to have greater autonomy (internal locus of control) / self-empowerment / well-being? I figure that these are likely outcomes of a secular based recovery program, but was wondering if it has been proven empirically yet. I also understand that LR welcomes research unlike some other recovery programs. Any feedback/advice would be much appreciated. Thx. Jon

  37. Craig W says:

    Jon,
The kinds of studies that would show what you (and I) would like to see haven’t been done. Such studies are complicated to do and expensive and to have credibility have to come from outside the group. We are certainly willing to participate in studies of many kinds and in fact will be contributing to one probably this fall, although it won’t be as broad and definitive as you are looking for. We strongly share your wish for empirical data rather than faith as the basis for what we try to do.

  38. Mike Farley says:

Can you give me instruction on how to obtain a username and password so I can attend online

  39. darius d says:

  40. Craig W says:

    Darius,
Any addict reading your words will understand immediately how you feel. So many of us have been there! Troy is exactly the right person to talk to about the closest face-to-face meetings in Modesto. I’ll send you an email about our online options. Don’t give up hope, Darius!

  41. Ctace says:

I am in Australia, I stumbled accross this site and I l;ike what I see. When are you going to come and open up in Aussie? Please hurry I’m sick of AA. Can i join your online meetings?

  42. Craig W says:

You certainly can join our online meetings, Ctace. I’ll send you an email spelling out your options. We have members from Australia, but they’re spread out — we currently don’t have any meetings there, but just need someone to step forward and get things started down under!

  45. Pat says:

hi all I’m looking to end my damaging relationship with alcohol and have been to a service with specially trained doctors who deal with drugs and alcohol, unfortunately they have a big emhasis on AA and Christian counselors which does not appeal. I live in Perth West Australia and I know there is need for a branch of Life Ring here. Anyone interested please lets get together and make it happen xx.

  46. Catherine says:

Not sure if I’m doing this correctly, but here goes!
I’ve been attending LR meetings once or twice a week for 6 weeks and they are my lifeline to recovery. I couldn’t do without the sharing, support and experience of my fellow attendees. My question is this: I’m thinking of going to Palm Springs, CA this winter but am reluctant to do so without knowing there is a meeting I can attend. It would be my first sober travel experience so I’ll need some support from like-minded people. If there isn’t a LR group there, I may have to re-think my options! I’m grateful for any input. Thanks.

  47. Craig W says:

    Catherine,
I’m afraid we have no meetings in Palm Springs. I’ll send you an email to discuss some online options.
    – Craig

  48. Kate says:

Pat, I live in Perth West Australia and I’d be very interested in seeing meetings here in WA. Let’s get together on finding out more.

  49. Bobby Plaine says:

  50. Bobby Plaine says:

I am looking forward to attending my first meeting with lifering. I hope it will happen real soon. I am in serious need of a good support group and I am sure this will be on the one! Thanks for hearing me out! SINCERELY bobby PLAINE
