Preferred Providers

“Where can I find a treatment facility that does not cram the 12 Steps down my throat?”   “I have tried the 12-Step treatment approach and it just didn’t work for me.  I want to try something else.”  ”I have heard there are alternatives to the 12-Step treatment method — but where can I find them?”

Questions like these come to lifering.org and to the various LifeRing online venues all the time.

Listed on this page are treatment providers who support LifeRing’s approach —  programs, practice groups, or individual practitioners who offer something broader than only the 12-Step method.  Some of these providers are predominantly 12-Step but also offer other options.  Some of them are based on other approaches than 12-Step altogether.

All providers listed here are primarily abstinence-oriented, although a few may also support other options. Contact the provider for details and for the most recent information.

These listings are mostly based on information provided by the treatment provider, and in some cases by former clients/patients.  Lifering.org cannot and does not check the information for accuracy and can offer no guarantees that a listed provider is as described or that its services meet the consumer’s expectations or live up to any particular standard of professional quality.  You, the patient/client/consumer, can help by posting comments about your experiences with the listed providers.

Providers shown with the LifeRing logo symbol  host LifeRing meetings on site.

There is no charge for a provider listing.  If you are a provider and fit the criteria, please contact service@lifering.org to be listed here.  A link to a resource for finding other providers is at the bottom of this page.

Psychological Assessment Research & Treatment Service (PARTS)
4131 Spicewood Springs Rd, Suite E-2
Austin TX 78759
“Selecting treatment methods that best match the characteristics of the individual is the most important determiner of good outcome. The self-guided approach described here is quite contrary to the disease model upon which 12-Step treatment programs are based. In contrast to encouraging problem drinkers to admit they have a disease over which they are powerless, the focus of relapse prevention oriented treatment is precisely the opposite. Strategies to exercise will are described and exercises to strengthen the faculties required to exercise will are presented…. This approach is designed for individuals with at least college level reading and thinking skills, and who have a practical, problem-solving mind set.” Website
