Craig Whalley’s Success Story Featured On Eminent Potential!

a-lifering-success-story

Hey, everyone! Long time no see, huh?

Well, what can I tell you? I’ve gotten sucked into the all-things-Facebook vortex, that’s what. If you haven’t checked it out yet, we’re on Facebook, and guess who’s the “Page Manager”? (No, really. Guess! Haha)

I’m not complaining, really – I’ve gained a boatload of fun and valuable skills in the process – but like the good little raccoon I am (ooooohhhh, look! Something shiny! **Toddles off to make whatever it may be my very own**), I tend to get a little…distracted. And, as such, you fine folks end up neglected.

And so, here I am, asking for both your forgiveness (pretty please?) and your renewed attention to the latest important thing in the LifeRing universe, and it’s this:

Eminent Potential, a new website focused on pairing people with recovery coaches open to multiple pathways – yay!, has featured our own Craig Whalley’s recovery story on their Success Stories page, and so  of course I want to share it with you!

Idn’t that thoughtful of me? Please click here to read Craig’s story.

On a personal note, I’d just like to say that if it weren’t for Craig getting sober – and starting up the LSR Safe e-mail group – I really have no idea where I’d be now. Maybe sober, but very likely not, and for that, he has my utmost respect, admiration, friendship, and love. Honestly, he has such a wealth of intelligence combined with staunch, and yet unusually gentle, supportiveness I started calling him “Yoda” after a while.

Anyway. Once again the blasted holidays (aka “Primary Excuses to Wreck Oneself If One Doesn’t First Check Oneself”) are coming up, so hold onto your lugnuts – it’s tiiiiiiiimmme for an overhaul!

See you again soon. 🙂

Multiple Pathways Goes To Washington…

Moving Up

Well, alright, not Washington exactly, but to events influenced and inspired by Washington, which is to say…this summer’s political party conventions.

More specifically (and most importantly), facingaddiction.org, the organizers of these events, has invited Tom McHale, LifeRing meetings convenor in Petoskey, Michigan and major recovery advocate working tirelessly in that state to advance multiple pathways, to participate in Multiple Recovery Pathways for Addiction Solutions sharing the stage at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland later this month.

Per information Tom shared:

Interest in Multiple Recovery Pathways is moving into the public arena and has been selected to be one of the topics at the Republican National Convention Caucus for Addiction Solutions.  Tom McHale, Peer Recovery Support Service Coordinator for the NMSAS Recovery Center in Gaylord, Michigan has been asked to provide information to the Caucus when they gather in July.

This invitation follows the work Mr. McHale and NMSAS Peer Recovery Coaches have been doing in northern Michigan over the past several years to nurture the development of  and spread the message of the availability of multiple recovery pathways for people seeking  to reduce or eliminate alcohol and/or drug use. The movement recognizes diverse needs of those seeking recovery and that the availability and support of multiple pathways leads not only to creating more opportunities for recovery but healthier communities.

An initiative currently underway in Alpena, Benzie and Manistee Counties called the Healthy Communities Campaign is designed to increase availability of multiple pathways in those communities, enhance community understanding of recovery and to create recovery supportive communities, and enhance the network of trained peer recovery coaches.  This initiative is funded by Northern Michigan Regional Entity.

Tom also says he’ll put in a plug for LifeRing if an opportunity presents itself. 😀

Multiple Recovery Pathways will also be represented at this year’s Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, PA at the end of this month.

We wish Tom and all the other participants in this months’ events all the best, and are looking forward to seeing their impact down the road.

New LifeRing Candlelight Meeting In Lewisham, London, UK!

candlelight

We are very pleased to announce that Lee C., meetings convenor/starter extraordinaire, has announced there will be a new meeting beginning this Friday evening in the London Borough of Lewisham! And to add a new dimension to the standard “How Was Your Week?” (HWYW) format, this meeting will also be candlelit.

For those of you who’ve never attended a candlelight meeting and aren’t sure what that means, my understanding of the idea of the candlelight* is to help create a calming, intimate, and safe space for participants to share more openly than perhaps they would in a more typically brightly lit atmosphere. However, if you have any questions or would like more information, please feel free to contact Lee anytime – see the contact information below.

Please also feel free to check out our LifeRing London’s Facebook page here, as well as Lee’s LifeRing London blog page here.

Here’s the meeting info.:

When: Fridays at 7:15 P.M.

Where: Lochaber Hall, Manor Lane Terrace, Lewisham, London SE13 5QL

Convenor: Lee C.

Contact Information: E-mail: lifering.london.uk@gmail.com

We wish Lee and all new meeting members the very best!

* And Now For a Moment of Fairness in Reporting: By “my understanding”, I mean me, Bobbi C.. I’ve never attended a candlelight meeting myself, so my interpretation – informed by other people who have attended such a meeting – may not be accurate. In other words, don’t take it from me – please contact Lee! 🙂

New LifeRing Meeting at Laguna Honda Hospital In San Francisco!

Laguna Honda Hospital

LifeRing is proud and pleased as punch to announce a new meeting, open to patients and the public, at Laguna Honda Hospital in San Francisco beginning next Wednesday, July 6th. Every new meeting is a big deal to us, but this meeting has especially important story behind it we’d like to tell you about, as well.

Per the meeting’s convenor, LifeRing Board of Directors Chair Byron Kerr:

“The exciting thing about this is that the City of San Francisco invited LifeRing to begin this meeting, which sends an implicit endorsement of LifeRing support to the recovery world. Laguna Honda Hospital, which is owned and operated by the Department of Public Health of the City & County of San Francisco, invited LifeRing to begin support meetings at the hospital in April of 2015. After more than a year of discussion, access badging, volunteer orientation, and interviews from both perspectives, we are ready to start.”
