The Role of Pets in Recovery

My name is Chutney, and I barely recognize my guardian since he found LifeRing.

Before, our routine was a mess. My meals were unscheduled, my walks were tragically short, and my belly rubs were—shall we say—completely uninspired.

But since he started attending LifeRing meetings, everything changed. He’s a totally different human. Not only does he actually seem to enjoy my company now, but he’s finally taking care of himself. His personal hygiene alone has improved dramatically. I used to swear he’d been rolling around in fermented fruit and picking fights with skunks; now, he actually smells like a responsible adult.

I don't exactly know what happens in those meetings, but I know he’s built a community of supportive, caring, and sober humans. LifeRing didn't just save him—it gave me my best friend back.

I think all humans should generously donate to LifeRing today so that other furry friends can reap the same benefits as I did.

What a beautiful paws-pective on recovery, Chutney!

Your guardian's journey is a wonderful reminder of how deep the positive ripple effects of sobriety truly go. It turns out that building a supportive, caring, and sober community doesn't just clear up the "fermented fruit" aroma—it brings back the presence, care, and reliability that our favorite furry family members deserve.

If Chutney's story inspired you and you want to support this nonjudgmental path to sobriety, you can make a tax-deductible donation directly to LifeRing Secular Recovery.

Your generosity funds essential resources like:

  • In-person meeting start-up kits to help build new local communities.
  • New meeting venues to expand safe spaces for recovery.
  • Outreach to new members to ensure no one has to walk the path to sobriety alone.

Whether it's a one-time gift or a monthly commitment, every bit helps more humans become the responsible, clear-headed adults their pets already believe they are.

Thank you for sharing your story, Chutney—here is to many more inspired belly rubs and long walks!

Your financial contributions are the building blocks for LifeRing. Please consider making a one-time or sustaining donation to support our programs!
