Local Meetings
LifeRing local meetings provide a confidential and supportive space for individuals dedicated to sobriety. A convenor, who is a person in recovery, hosts the open discussion. While many meetings are small, circular gatherings that follow a "How was your week?" format, others may be larger or focus on specific topics. Regardless of the size or format, participants share their recovery experiences and plans, keeping the focus on present-day events in a relaxed, living-room-like atmosphere. The only requirement for attending meetings is a desire to be sober. You do need to be sober to speak during the meeting. To ensure a supportive environment, "war stories" about past substance use, unsolicited advice, and discussions on religion or politics are avoided. Meetings often conclude with applause for sobriety, and while participation is free, voluntary contributions are welcomed. These meetings are confidential, and attendance can be verified for courts, treatment programs, personal accountability, and other purposes.
