Unconditional support: What a beloved dog taught me about recovery

Bronzeson
Pets Provide Unconditional Acceptance
Dear LifeRing Community,
I grew up on a farm surrounded by great dogs, but none compared to Bronzeson. Named for his shiny, bronze-colored coat, he was the best dog ever. He lived a long, loyal life of 13 years.
Bronzeson survived my two sons' teenage years—no easy trick—but his true feat was sticking by me during the darkest years of my life, while I was dealing with a severe alcohol addiction.
Through it all, he never judged me. His love and acceptance were entirely unconditional. Whether we were exploring hiking trails, walking around the neighborhood, or I was unable to leave the couch, he was just there, nudging my hand to be petted. That is the beautiful thing about pets, cats or dogs. Their pure devotion mirrors exactly what I found when I finally discovered LifeRing Secular Recovery: absolute, nonjudgmental acceptance.
Community Matters
Trying to navigate recovery alone can feel like walking through an empty house. LifeRing gave me the community and support I needed to heal, offering the same steady, welcoming presence I used to feel sitting next to my old pal Bronzeson.
Today, I am donating to LifeRing in honor of Bronzeson’s memory.
