CNN: This is Life(Ring)

CNN's Lisa Ling joins LifeRing in Episode 5 of THIS IS LIFE WITH LISA LING on CNN this season.

In October 2021, LifeRing Regional Representative and BOD member Lisa Swing-Corney was approached by the producers of the award-winning CNN documentary television series THIS IS LIFE WITH LISA LING.

The producers explained that, during the final season of THIS IS LIFE, Lisa wanted to develop an episode about the rise in alcoholism in America, and explore new options available for people who are struggling with this ubiquitous addiction. They recognized LifeRing as an excellent alternative recovery program and requested an opportunity to film an in-person meeting.

Much of the public does not hear or know about alternatives to AA. Families struggling from alcohol dependence and their loved ones need options, and it is clear that LifeRing has become one for many people across the country.

After miles of legwork from LifeRing BOD member and FMC Committee Chair, Lorraine Hull finalized the location and willing participants. Lisa Ling and film crew joined a LifeRing in-person meeting of six held in Denver at Secular Hub on January 20, 2022. Additional filming and private interviews were conducted with several Colorado-based LifeRing members.

We have just learned that LifeRing will be included in Season 9: Episode 5 of THIS IS LIFE WITH LISA LING: We Have a Drinking Problem. This episode airs on CNN Sunday, December 18th at 9:00pm ET | 6:00pm PT. You better believe LifeRing will be hosting watch parties across the world! Stay tuned for details ….

    If only this program was available to Australia, then the 2 zoom Sydney meetings may have been promoted.

    If anyone know a link where an international audience can see this it would be really useful (it was not played on CNN here).

      The This Is Life with Lisa Ling Crew tastefully shares the story of one woman’s struggle with drinking, a couple segments of a LifeRing in-person meeting, a person relying on a drug unapproved by the FDA to counter urges, Lisa’s appreciation of wine, and a dry bar. Could be triggering for some.

      For me, it was a little hard to watch because the content was intense and the struggle made so real.
