Create a Circle of Recovery

As the year draws to a close, many of us pause to take stock of our lives—reflecting on the people we cherish, the blessings we enjoy, and the challenges we face. This year, my reflection began with gratitude: for the loving friends and family surrounding me, for having a safe place to call home, for food on my table, and for living in a country where my secular beliefs are respected. Above all, I am extremely thankful to be in active recovery.

But my journey to this place was far from simple. Early on, I tried traditional recovery methods—staying sober for six months, then nine months—but these efforts were only partial victories. I wasn’t truly recovering because I was relying on a support system I couldn’t fully embrace or believe in.

The truth is, recovery is deeply personal. Each of us needs to find a community that resonates with our values and experiences—a circle of recovery built on shared understanding and respect. For me, creating a personal recovery plan that includes my sober interests, safe and supportive friends, and meaningful activities was essential. LifeRing Secular Recovery champions this approach with our workbook Recovery by Choice, empowering individuals to take ownership of their recovery journey. When you craft your own path, you’re far more likely to stay committed and thrive.LifeRing Donation Button reading Empower Hope: Make Your Gift Today.

By joining LifeRing Secular Recovery, members become part of something bigger than themselves. They connect with others who share their desire for autonomy and respect, find strength in positive support, and in turn, become pillars of encouragement for others. It’s a community rooted in collaboration and empowerment—and that collective spirit is what makes our impact so powerful.

This year-end, as you consider your charitable giving, I invite you to support LifeRing Secular Recovery. Your generosity helps us provide a welcoming and empowering space where individuals can build their own recovery, find hope, and create lasting change. Together, we can strengthen this vital community and help more individuals reclaim their lives on their own terms.

Thank you for being part of this journey—and for your support.

Here’s to a new year filled with hope, healing, and recovery by choice!
