LifeRing is proud to introduce our first in-person meeting in Grand Rapids, MI. LifeRing Secular Recovery in-person meetings are open to those seeking substance use recovery support in a positive, nonjudgmental setting with like-minded people.

Following is a brief interview with new Michigan in-person convenor Cindy S.
Tell us a little about yourself
I work in the finance industry. I'm a Fur-Mom to 2 cats that love to attend LifeRing meetings online. I read a lot and in sobriety have found myself engulfed in the world of Quit Lit. My guilty pleasure is the Real Housewives franchise and I have been known to strike up lively debates over the proper utensil to eat macaroni and cheese with. (It's a fork--BTW).
I found LifeRing through Google 16 months ago. )Probably don't need to include that I searched for non-Jesus online recovery group—but that's what happened.). I'm an active LifeRing Community member and a veteran of the annual Joshua Tree Gathering. I've been sober for 9 months and feel this meeting will not only help me, but also help others like me, through positive recovery support.
I finally have a meeting where I don't feel compelled to start every share by pointing to my hand and
showing where I'm from in the Mitten State. People will know. Because they will be there!
What inspired you to start this meeting?
LifeRing has been a huge part of my recovery program. I've been wanting to find a way to give back, but I didn't want to host an online meeting—though I have attended at least one a day for the last 16 months. I went to an in person meeting in Ludington (up north) Michigan one Friday and it was lovely and I left feeling inspired. Decided on the drive home that was the right next step for my program and then things just moved along really quickly and 3 weeks later, I was on the schedule
I didn't plan on starting it so soon. I was just going to meet with a lady about a room and I left on the schedule. I didn't have time to come up with a fun name so for now it is just LifeRing GR, which is okay because the next closest of the 3 existing LifeRing meetings in Michigan is almost 100 miles away.
My goal is to provide another secular option for West Michiganders to help foster a sober community where people don't feel alone. Also, to finally have a meeting where I don't feel compelled to start every share by pointing to my hand and showing where I'm from in the mitten state. People will know. Because they will be there.
