A Message From Miggy & Jax (via our human, Cindy)

Hello, humans.

We are Miguel Enchilada Cabrera McShearerski (the distinguished black cat in charge) and Jax (the younger, sleek gray apprentice). We share a home with our favorite human, Cindy, and we are officially the most professional Zoom-bombers to ever walk across a keyboard.

We are writing to you today because we need your help. Well, technically, our fellow humans need your help, but we cats are the ones who notice the little things.

Before the Change: The Heavy Silence

Cats are experts in routine. We notice when breakfast is exactly two minutes late. And a few years ago, we definitely noticed when our human wasn’t herself.

The house was quieter, heavier. Her eyes were often far away, clouded by a struggle we couldn’t understand. We did our best—offering purrs, sitting on her lap, guarding her sleep—but a cat’s love can’t cure addiction. We felt helpless watching the person we love slip further away.

The Turnaround: How LifeRing Changed Everything

Today, our home is completely transformed.

It is full of light and sound. Cindy laughs constantly. She sings us custom, wildly improvised songs telling us how beautiful we are (frequently very loudly, and frankly, not always on key).

What changed? She found a lifeline. She spends her evenings and weekends looking at a glowing screen, talking to a global community of peers who understand exactly what she’s going through. She found LifeRing Secular Recovery.

We’ve personally attended more recovery meetings than most humans. We have standard protocols for them:

  • The Tail-in-Face Surprise: Popping our tails directly in front of the camera lens to break the tension.
  • The Strategic Meow: Loudly demanding chin scratches at the exact moment someone shares a deeply profound milestone.
  • The Vibe Check: Staring intently at the screen is our way of making sure everyone feels supported.

We don’t fully understand what a “peer-to-peer recovery support network” is, but we know it gave us our human back. It gave us a person who is entirely present, joyful, and safe.

Your Donation is the Lifeline

The truth is that LifeRing’s life-saving meetings don’t just happen. They require resources, technology, and support to remain free and accessible 24/7 to anyone fighting for their life.

When you give to LifeRing, you aren’t just funding a nonprofit. You are keeping the local, in-person, and digital doors open for someone who is currently sitting in the dark, looking for hope. You are rebuilding families.

Because when you help one person find recovery, you rescue every single soul waiting for them at home. 🐾

Will You Protect a Home Like Ours?

Please don’t wait. A gift of any size makes a big difference:

$25 helps fund the secure digital platform for an online meeting for one month.

$50 provides materials for new peer convenors to expand the meeting calendar.

$100 facilitates outreach to clinicians to connect individuals with a sober community.

Click here to make your tax-deductible donation to LifeRing today. Together, we can make sure more humans become the incredible people their pets already know them to be.

With deep, rumbling purrs of gratitude,

Miggy & Jax Professional Nap Supervisors, Meeting Crashers, and Very Good Boys
