Warriors Workshop For Veterans Tuesdays at 4:00pm Pacific Time First Meeting: Tuesday, November 15, 2022 |
Warriors Workshop for Veterans is open to veterans, active-duty personnel, and friends. This is the second LifeRing meeting for people in recovery who have also served. The original LifeRing Veterans in Recovery meeting started on Veterans Day, 2021, and is offered on Thursdays at 4:00pm Pacific.
Warriors Workshop for Veterans is the brilliant idea of LifeRing Community member and retired paratrooper Jose. Jose shares his sober history, his goals for this new LifeRing focus meeting, and a little bit about himself below:
Here's a little bit about me. I'm a recovering alcoholic with two years of sobriety under my belt. I attribute that to LifeRing 100%. LifeRing saved my life.
I am a 82nd airborne Division veteran. I wanted to do a veterans meeting to give back to the community because there are situations, emotions and other things that only veterans can empathize with. For a lot of veterans, it's hard to even discuss things with non-veterans and I think I can close that Gap a little bit. I also admin 18, 000 paratroopers on the 82nd airborne Division vets Facebook page. On that page we deal with a lot of the same situations, some a little less serious some a lot more serious. Along with the history and brotherhood of being a paratrooper.
I found out about LifeRing through a friend after a failed attempt at contacting another recovery organization. And it actually worked out better because I'm non-religious. What I got out of contacting that other organization was not the most appealing opportunity. Contacting a friend of mine to vent my frustrations. He told me about LifeRing and how it helped him. So, I started to go to the Monday meeting at 4:00 with Janna. That was back in April 2021. And I haven't looked back.
I'm an avid fisherman and cook. I've caught everything from bluegill to bluefin tuna. From Alaska to Zihuatanejo Mexico. I turned into a cookout of necessity because I'm a super picky eater and the only way I can be happy is if I cook it myself. So everything from broiled halibut with a balsamic glazed to prime rib and brisket. I do it all. Both are types of therapy for me I believe.
Along with dealing with my situations I also care for my elderly father on a daily basis. He is also a veteran paratrooper and my hero. After getting my DUI and October 2020 I had a realization that if I wasn't here he and my cats would be pretty much stranded and I just can't have that. I can't screw up again. He's my main focus for everything these days. And then my cats are a close second on the list
So now I've been granted the opportunity with a charter for a veterans meeting through LifeRing. I thought a nice catchy name would be good so I came up with "Warriors Workshop" it will be a Tuesday afternoon meeting at 4:00 p.m. PST.
I'm really hoping that this meeting catches on. I'm excited to give back again.
Not going to lie I'm nervous and excited equally for this opportunity.
— Jose

Veterans Day is a long-standing national holiday honoring living US veterans who served in the military. It was first recognized as “Armistice Day” marking the end of WWI. In 1954, the holiday was changed to “Veterans Day” in order to celebrate US veterans serving in all wars. |
